Its been a while since I’ve had a book that has pulled me in and kept like this book. I started it this weekend and finished it today during my day off. It was great! As I read books of this genre I’m reminded how very lucky I am to live in the United States and to be free. I’m further reminded that societies like these could exist in the future, have existed in the past, and do to some extent exist today. This book is a good reminder to where we could go as a country, as a world.
Matched by Ally Condle
Matched tells the story of Cassia living in a world heavily controlled by Society. So much so, that Society decides what you will eat, when you will eat, your job, who you will marry, when you will have kids, when you will die….You get the picture. Cassia has two large events happening that will forever impact her; her matching ceremony and her her grandfather’s last banquet or death. Cassia matching ceremony is the same day as her best friend Xander. And to everyone’s surprise, she is matched with Xander. One glitch, when she views his information provided by Society, another boys face appears. Ky, a boy with a secretive past, is also on her card. This error has Cassia questioning everything.
This book is very well-written and pulls you into the story almost immediately. As you read you learn more about society and its direct control over its citizen’s lives. This book does a great job exploring a modern-day/futuristic Socialistic society. It helps bring insight into a type of government we tend to overlook or not think much about. Since this is a young adult book, it does a great job demonstrating the negative effects on such governmental rule.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a read until I’m finished, don’t put down book.
I give this book a 5 out 5 bookends.
Have you read anything recently? I’d love to hear what you’re reading. Have you read this book? Any thoughts on it?
