Doing the best she can to raise happy, healthy children

This is my third fix. I’ve really enjoyed getting these boxes and finding things I may not always choose for myself. Each month my stylist has picked out really great options for me. The first month I kept all 5 items, the second I kept 3 out of 5. This month I kept all 5 items. I’ll attach some pictures and my thoughts on all the items.

If you would like read about my previous fixes, you can check Box 1 HERE and Box 2 HERE. This box was the holiday box and it featured a golden ticket. I was pretty excited to scratch mine off. I didn’t win instantly but am in the drawing for the big gift certificate.

This time I didn’t provide any feedback as to what I wanted. I let her style me however she wanted. I have to say, I was pretty excited with what I received. There were two items I was a bit unsure of when pulling them out but once I tried them on, I really liked them.

My disclaimer is I’m a horrible “Selfie” taker. So There are a couple of selfies. And I am sorry.

First is the black beaded sweater. This was one I wasn’t certain on when I first looked at it. It seemed a bit flashy. However, once I tried it on, I really liked it. Its a fun sweater that would look great for a party. As I examined it closer, I noticed a missing  bead and a second one was pretty loose. Stitch fix was able to replace and is currently mailing one.

The next item, is a fantastic scarf. I’ve not received one before and was very excited to have it. Its beautiful burgandy and navy and I feel that I will be able to use it with several items in my wardrobe. Its also a larger scarf then I currently own. It will take me some time to learn to style it appropriately.

Next is this beautiful gray 3/4 length sleeve. It is similar to a yoga top. I knew I was going to love it as soon as I saw it. It’s perfect for hanging out at home or out for lunch. I absolutely loved this tie on the back.

This puffer vest was the most expensive item in my box. Its very good quality and so comfy! At first I was a bit nervous about this color. But I now love it! I wore it out shopping tonight tonight. It really is a perfect addition to my closet.

So this isn’t a great picture of me. Hence I did say I’m horrible at selfies. However, when I tried this on I paired it with the grey top and the white ribbon tie.

This it the last piece in my box this time. I was bit hesitant with it. In fact I pulled it out and thought it was pretty but wasn’t sure I’d keep it. I tried it on and it was very comfortable. Being a mom, student and full-time employee, comfort is number 1 on my list. I also really liked how it looked on. I love the cut out in the back.

So that was my fix! I kept all my items. This month with my buy 5 discount and the $20 styling fee taken out, before taxes it was under $200. So that made this fix the most reasonable. It was nice be a bit lower since it was the holiday month.

I put fixes out for a couple of months. My next fix will be in March. I requested for that fix to have some dresses. I have graduation from NP school and I wish to have something nice to wear to the ceremony and while celebrating.

What do you think of the fix? Would you have kept everything? I would love to have your feedback. Do you get Stitch Fix? I would love to hear what you think of it.

I was pretty excited to get my second box. My first box was a success and I decided to keep everything. To read my initial box thoughts read my review HERE.

This fix I asked for items that would work with the awesome sweater I received with the last box and items I could dress up or down. I must say, my stylist is amazing. She did a great job again this month with meeting and exceeding my expectations.

This month I received two sweaters, two shirts and a pair of skinny jeans or jeggings (I’m not sure what makes jeans skinny vs jeggings…). I was quite pleased with all of it. Here is what I received and what I kept and what I sent back.

20161126_195125

First off, the Skinny Jeans. Its hard to tell in the picture but they are a dark wash with gold printed into it. Not only are they pretty but they are also super comfy! I have a hard time finding jeans that 1) I like and 2) feet well. However these are fantastic. They are Liverpool Anita Printed Skinny Print. I kept these.

20161126_195441 This is beautiful! It’s a silky-like material and it has this fun button on the sleeves. It’s a bit clingier than I would like for my tummy area. However it looks great. I also love how I can pair it with my sweater from last time which would help hide the tummy. I can also wear it to work and or just out and about. This is 41Hawthorne Colibri Solid Tab Sleeve Blouse. I kept this.

20161126_195429

Sorry for the sideways picture. I couldn’t figure out how to turn it. This is a very pretty sweater. Its long so it looks great with the skinny jeans. It has some darker threading along the bottom which doesn’t show on the picture. The one downfall is the knitting is not really thick. So I will need to wear a cami or  tank underneath. I feel like I could dress it up or keep it casual. This is RD Style La Roda Pullover Sweater. I kept this.

20161126_195520

This was probably my favorite. It’s basically a long t-shirt. It was flowy so I didn’t have any tummy clinging. It also worked great with the jeans. Unfortunately, it had a slight snag in the thread on the inside of the shirt. Although it would most likely NOT catch on anything, I didn’t want to spend so much on something that had a blemish. I did reach out to Stitch Fix and asked about getting a replacement, unfortunately they had none to send me. This is Le Lis Stanley Striped Reglan Top. I did return it.

20161126_195056

This was the last sweater in the box. I love the elbow patches and the texture on the bodice. Its also a long sweater which looked good with the jeans. To say I loved this sweater would’ve been and understatement. Its warm and comfy. It was also a bit thin and will require a cami. However, this was a whopping $98. I was extremely torn about sending it or keeping until I realized I had to send back my other shirt. Without the 25% discount, I couldn’t rationalize spending that much on a white sweater. No matter how awesome those elbow pads are. It is Evolution by Cyrus Abbot Cowl Neck Elbow Patch Sweater.

Sending two items back, brought my total down under $200 after my styling fee was taken out. So I felt pretty good about my stash and the cost. Initially, when I thought I was keeping all 5 items, I was going to put my fix on hold. However, since I sent two back, I may take one in December. I’ll have to wait to see how my holiday spending goes.

As always, if you want to try it out, you can follow this LINK. This does provide me with a discount once you order your first box.

Do you get Stitch Fix or another service? I’d love to hear about your fixes or boxes. What do you think of the clothes I received? Would you have kept or sent back something different? Let me know!

I know this Stitch Fix box thing isn’t new. I know there are tons of Stitch Fix reveal vlogs out there. However, after months (literally) of contemplating it, I ordered my first box. Part of the reason I struggled with deciding to order one is because of the size cut-off. It only went up to size 14. And, well, I’m just a bit too big for that. Pants I’m a 16 and my shirt size varies between  a L and a XL completely depending on cut. So, you see, I didn’t want to order a box just to waste 20 bucks!

But here’s the thing, sometime between late summer/early fall and now (October), they’ve increased their sizing! Its no up to size 18 pants and XXL. So I say, “Thank-you Stitch-fix!” After I noticed that, without much hesitation, I ordered my first box.

Probably one of the biggest things I was told by “expert” stitchers was to give it a couple of boxes to allow the stylist get to know my style. It was recommended to do several month’s of boxes and then cut down if I wanted. I went into this expecting just an “OK” box for my first one.

Boy was I surprised! I got a great first box. I ended up keeping all the items. I asked my stylist to give me clothes I could layer. I received 3 shirts and one sweater that will be perfect for this. I was also furthered surprised to find a pair of jeans that fit and felt very comfy.

I will say, its not the cheapest way to shop but I look as it I’m paying for the convenience. I won’t be able to do it EVERY month but I’m hoping to do it for a few months and then switch to doing it a couple times seasonally.

Here’s what was in my box:

I’m over all a skeptic when it comes to many products out there today. Especially ones that claim health food status. My skepticism mostly comes from the thought if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. With that being said, I decided to try It Works Greens.

Before I get into the review, let me explain the WHY behind it.

I’m in graduate school. Nurse practitioner school to be exact. Its killer. This summer semester I did my first clinical rotation, 9 credit hours and managed to maintain full-time employment. Crazy! Oh, I’m also a mom to two very busy little kids and a wife to an amazingly supportive husband.  I got really sick for about a month which added to my stress. I’m on break right now but I’m looking at another semester starting up soon. I have several people I know who sell It Works and their multiple daily posts on Facebook the products kept coming up on my news feed.

This last semester, I drank a lot of caffeine. I was up to 3-6 cups of coffee and 2-4 cans of soda. That’s a lot… As finals came and went, I began thinking about how it would be nice to drink less caffeine and take a vitamin or some sort of immune support before next semester started. The vitamin part shouldn’t be too hard, I have them in cupboard. But the cutting back on caffeine, that would be hard.

Enter, It Works. Its suppose to provide all of that and a bonus 8 servings of fruits and veggies in one cup. I went to an adoption fundraiser and an It Works vendor was there. I bought a one cup packet of the Greens and chew thing. I’ve not tried the chew thing yet. I felt having another green packet would be nice, so I reached out to a friend who sells it and asked for a sample. She sent me two. Neither of the two ladies asked me to write this review.

Before gulping down these samples, I tried to do some research. That’s when I discovered that outside of Amazon, I couldn’t find any reviews not written by someone selling the product. That really bothers me when I’m researching a product. I want to see non-biased (meaning I’m not making money off this product) reviews. So, I decided once I’m done sampling it, I would write a review.

Also, I tried hard to research green products. What I found was for potency, other products claim to have more bang for the buck. This was per websites ( For Example). I also came across some concerns with green drinks in general regarding contamination (For Example). However, the safety of greens is not what my review is about, so if you’re looking at green drinks (I’m using this generically now, not as It Works Greens), you’ll want to do some research to decide if its right for you.

So, now, without further ado, I present to you, my review of It Works greens.

Day 1; Sample 1

I like to drink my water room temperature. So, I poured one of the packets into a cup of room temperature water. The first thing I noticed once I ripped open the top of the package is the smell. It smelled very good, like berry Kool-aid. I poured it into the water and shook it up. I used a little over 8 ounces in a shaker bottle. The water turned a green color but still smelled good. So, I took a swig. At first, it tasted very berry and not bad. However, the after taste came. It tasted very much like I envisioned something green. It had that “health food” after taste. It was not pleasant. I tried a few more drinks and almost gagged. I added some ice which seemed to help me get the rest of it down.

When I drink caffeine, I get almost an immediate, yes let’s start the day! Some of this could be mental but I believe the caffeine kicks in pretty quickly. This drink did not have an immediate effect. However, I did drastically decrease my caffeine intake. I had 2 sodas and 2 cups of coffee on top of the greens.

Day 2; No Sample

I didn’t drink any greens. I drank my soda and coffee as normal. Slightly less than typically.

Day 3; Sample 2

I was a bit nervous trying it again. After nearly gagging day 1. I skipped room temperature and went directly to iced. The taste didn’t get any better and I had some reflexive gagging. I was able to force it down.

I was able to drink quite a bit less caffeine day. I had 1 coffee and 2 sodas. That was great! I reached out to the individual who provided me with the sample and she recommended apple juice. Personally, I hate apple juice. So that was a no go. We did talk about using the orange flavored in orange juice. But she didn’t have any orange flavor on hand.

Day 4, No Sample

I had to take a break from the taste and try to find a different way to drink it.

Day 5, Sample 3

This was my final sample packet. I had been at the store the day before and found some fruit punch and thought it would work since the flavor was berry. It mixed up pretty well in the juice. And it by far went down smoother. I could still taste the “green health food” flavor of the powder but it was overwhelming and didn’t make me gag. Unfortunately though, I did feel like I could “taste’ the flavor anytime I burped for the WHOLE day. So that was a bit annoying. And I didn’t notice this when I drank it with just water.

I had OK caffeine use this day. I didn’t drink any coffee until mid-morning. And then only sipped on it. I had a second cup of coffee late afternoon. I had a soda for lunch and then after supper. So that was really good.

Over all thoughts

I didn’t think this product was as FANTASTIC as those selling it advertise. I still NEED caffeine to get through the day. Honestly, I like coffee so I know I’ll always drink a cup for recreation. I was hoping though this product would cut down the NEED for it (feeling tired). However, it did cut down the amount of caffeine I used. The taste really wasn’t great for me. I don’t want to ADD calories to my diet by drinking juice every morning. So that’s a bummer. I also found the ongoing tasting of the product with any burps was an unwanted side effect as well. I will admit I’m a super taster (you know if you are a super taster if cilantro tastes like soap). If you are not a super taster, you may not struggle as much with the flavor. Or, if you like that health food taste, then it wouldn’t bother you either.

Overall on a scale of 1-5 (1 being won’t touch this product again and 5 being loved it, give me more!), I would give this product a 3. It didn’t quite give me the results I wanted (although it helped) and the taste was a major let down.

With the price point being over 50/month unless you’re a loyal costumer which takes it down to a little over 30/month, I’m not sold on this product. I’m hoping to sample at least one other green powder. Hopefully I’ll love it more than this one!
